DJ Quik - Visualism
Chapter Selections
01: Intro - Open Sequence
02: Quik Autographs Glass
Directors Comment: This was a cool little scene that just came about at a record store in Oxnard, California. Quik just leaned over and signed the lens. Needed to get a new lens after that but its all good.
03: Compton
Directors Comment: Obviously from listening to Quik’s music you see how important the city of Compton is to him. In this scene he discusses his early years in Compton and there is a Live performance of “Born and Raised in Compton”
04: Welcome To The Studio
Directors Comment: This was some of the first days we shot with Quik, while he was recording and creating “Unda The Influence”.
05: Quik's Groove
06: Seattle
Directors Comment: The Seattle segment covered a typical day in the life during a promotional day. Includes footage at the airport, on the plane, in limo’s, at in-store appearance, a little bit of hoops, at a radio station and at the hotel. It was a really in depth segment.
07: Sugafree
Directors Comment: Suga Free is always a fan favorite during quik shows and in this he talks about the pimp game and we show a performance of “Why You Bullshittin”. Quik also discusses how he and Suga Free started working together.
08: Tonight
Directors Comment: In depth scene on what a live show is like, from arrival at the venue, getting ready backstage, the show and after. Includes a live performance of the hit song “Tonight”.
09: Music Is Serious
10: White Boy With Tats
11: The History Of Hi C
Directors Comment: This is a really cool segment with clips from Hi-C’s classic early 90’s music videos including “Im Not Your Puppet” and others. Old footage of Quik is also used in these scenes.
12. AMG / Debarge
Directors Comment: In the studio with AMG and Debarge as they work on music with Quik. It’s a really funny segment and it also shows how truly talented El Debarge is.
13. Tupac Tribute
14. Reno
Directors Comment: We shot these scenes over one night in Reno. It was a cool show, a hi energy crowd and a city where Quik had never performed before.
15. Butch Cassidy
Directors Comment: This is a short scene of Quik and Butch working on music for Butch’s album. He is a really talented guy.
16. Chucky Smoking
17. Street Bike
Directors Comment: One of Quiks passions. He loves street bikes and would drive them to the studio on almost every session we did. I wanted to do more scenes with him riding but didn’t want him to do too much and hurt himself because the camera was there .
18. Quik At Piano
19. Vegas
Directors Comment: The first of like 3 shows in Vegas over the year that we shot the DVD. I have travelled there with several artists and there is just something about the energy there that makes people do bigger shows, or crazier nights.
20. Smoking On Stage
21. B Walk
Directors Comment: Probably the most requested scene by fans emailing our site was for Quik to do and talk about the B walk, which he does in this segment in great detail.
22. 50 Ways
Directors Comment: I always felt odd about artists who spoke alot on fallen friends in their songs. I think in some cases other artists have used that as a jump off point for success. In this case its completely about the pain Quik feels from losing his friend. Every time Quik would go to screen that scene he couldn’t even make it all the way through. I saw the same emotion from the others in the camp who know Maus well.
Raw Impact Comment: Just have to make a comment on this scene. This is one of, if not the most moving segments I have ever seen on film. The sheer emotion and feel of the footage will bring you close to tears. The way in which Quik's pain is conveyed is simply outstanding. In this scene you see the real DJ Quik. After the first time watching it, I was speechless.
23. Nate Studio
Directors Comment: The Nate studio scene shows you, start to finish, Quik making a track... it was so in detail we had many conversations about cutting it out. You get to see Quiks entire creative process here.
24. Chucky With Balloon
25. Hi C - Coochie Coochie
Directors Comment: If you are all sleeping on the new HiC music you better stop, cause this shit is hot as f*ck. Also includes topless women in this scene!!
26. Chubbs
27. Studio Mix
Directors Comment: Again we are showing you all “too much” according to several people in the Quik camp, but Quik and I both agreed that the studio is such an integral part of his life we had to show it in heavy detail.
28. Chucky
29. L.A Show
Directors Comment: Quiks first LA show in several years… Lots of cool behind the scenes and a bumpin crowd.
30. Quik Close
31. End Credits
32. Bonus Scenes
